Autoimmune Conditions

Somatic Support for Clients Living with Autoimmune Conditions

When the immune system turns against the body it is designed to protect, something has gone deeply out of balance. Autoimmune conditions, whether lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto's, MS, or others, are among the most complex challenges in modern medicine.

While conventional treatment focuses on suppressing the immune response, my experience over twenty-three years suggests that there is often an unresolved layer beneath the autoimmunity that medication alone cannot reach.

How I Work With This

I have found two primary drivers in the autoimmune clients I work with:

  • Chronic internal tension: In my experience, clients with autoimmune diagnoses often carry patterns of sustained internal stress, long-held tension, and a nervous system that has been in overdrive. Research increasingly explores the connection between sustained stress and immune function.
  • Sustained nervous system activation: The body can only hold decades of chronic stress, tension, and unprocessed experience before it starts to break down. I find that this breakdown very often starts with the autoimmune system. It is not a failure, it is the body's honest response to carrying more than it was designed to hold.

Through the Capacity for Self Method™, I work to reduce the internal load that often accompanies immune dysregulation. This means calming the nervous system, resolving the inner conflicts that keep the body braced, and releasing the physical tension that has accumulated over years.

This is not a replacement for medical treatment. It is a complement, addressing the layers that medication does not reach.

What to Expect

Sessions for autoimmune clients are often gentler and slower-paced. Your body is already overwhelmed, the last thing it needs is aggressive treatment.

I work with cranial sacral therapy to calm the central nervous system, gentle myofascial release to address tissue restriction, and breathwork to create space for the body to begin its own rebalancing. Parts work may also play a role if the autoimmune flares seem connected to emotional patterns.

This is deep, long-term work. Clients with autoimmune conditions often benefit from a sustained relationship over months, with sessions spaced to match what their system can integrate.
