MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

Myofascial Release Therapy in Sonoma and Marin Counties

Myofascial Release takes place directly on skin, without oil or cream. This enables me to find areas with fascial restrictions while applying very gentle stretching techniques. In these sessions the treatment typically follows an intuitive flow, rather than a set protocol often associated with “standard” western medical practices; this is because what we think is the problem is sometimes just a symptom. For this reason I follow my intuition and go where your body tells me, instead of a series of standardized steps you’ll often find posted on the wall of many old school physical therapy practices.

MY TECHNIQUE

I am certified in the John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach ®. I believe that deep tissue pressure pushes beyond the “fight or flight” barrier and despite how good it might feel on the surface, it subconsciously pushes our bodies into an alert/protective mode, not the release/unwinding mode I foster which is absolutely crucial for this modality to work properly.

LIGHT PRESSURE

Myofascial release helps us let go of restrictions which can be caused by many things; some of which include surgery, trauma, stressed muscles, and neurological conditions like ALS. Instead of pounding on the muscle with deep pressure and possibly re-injuring it, Myofascial Release (MFR) gently releases restrictions for long lasting results and deep unwinding healing. I would describe the process as feeling similar to a Yin yoga class that holds poses for several minutes, allowing for deep release not possible with short held treatment or stretches.

Myofascial Release (MFR) - John F Barne's Approach

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a manual therapy technique that focuses on releasing tension and restrictions in the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, bones, and organs. Barnes' approach involves sustained pressure and stretching to facilitate the release of fascial restrictions, promoting improved flexibility, range of motion, and alleviation of pain. Addressing fascial restrictions can have positive effects on past trauma trapped in the tissue, as well as overall well-being by addressing the root causes of physical discomfort and dysfunction.
